Default How do you calibrate your subwoofer?

What demo or calibration discs do you use to test and tune your Subwoofer?

Are there any free frequency sweeps I can download and burn to a CD?

I use the audyssy setup in my onkyo amp, for a good test the 20th Century Fox bit at the start of Die Hard 4.0 brings a smile to the face!

Thanks bobby thats exactly what I was looking for.

I take it the number of the file corresponds to the frequency used?

I have the Mic that came with my Yammy 761 and I've had a DB meter for years.

What are the test tones like on your Sub? Do you hear very tone?

I haven't properly calibrated mine yet - I really should though, however last time I did the audyssey set up the distances were very suspect and the levels that were to be set for the speakers wwere far too low - together with the fact that they are full range speakers, but as I like some sub in my music, the settings ended up at 120hz cross over, meaning my sub only got a work out during films, not music - so I reset the lot toTHX and 80 hz cross over.

Now that the living room is Christmas free, I might have a go again doing the audyssey to see what it comes up with!

I do have a db meter which came with the sub, but am not clear on how precisely to use it to get the best out of the sub - surely the best way is something like the Room Equalisation Wizzard software

Cheers Tone. Something I will look into in time. I guess I need a lap-top though to be able to use it - haven't got one yet!

Per Rew will help but you need to make sure the SPL meter has the correct calibration figures in. They can be wildly out thats why the figures I got using my calibrated mic with REW meant the SMS1 didnt improve it by that much. Tried a test yesterday with my cousins BFD and his SPL meter v my SMS1 and the difference was amazing similar set ups but hugely different results. Yet using REW with my mic and the result was similar to using the much more expensive but a hell of lot easier to use Velodyne than the more clunky REW with the BFD. The main difference was I could adjust the settings in under 5 minutes with the velodyne versus about 5 hours with the BFD.

Not everyone will need a BFD, depends hugely on your room.
