    Default Help with Devore Velvet

    Hi guys
First post on here and after a bit of advice please

Have recently finished installing my first screen and projector (Carada 110” Masquerade and a JVC HD990) I am now ready to make a start on covering the adjacent walls and ceiling with the famous devore velvet. Can someone who has used the velvet please talk me through the best way to attach it to the walls and ceilings. I am not the best at DIY but am very fortunate to a friend who is and is willing to help me with the final stage of my project.

The images I have seen so far from the 990 are breath taking, currently in the process of hooking up amp and speakers and even without the sound its really drawing me in to what’s happening on screen. It’s Awesome. Can’t wait for it to be finished!

    Ben

    hi soul,

welcome to the forums. sounds like you're gonna have one hell of a set-up. (where's the pics!!!!!!!!)

as for the devore, it's fantastic stuff.
attaching it is easy, just make wooden frames (not too big as the velvet will sag, not that you'll notice) pull the velvet round the frames and staple it on, easy peasy

i think Al has some photo's of the velvet frames being made on his DIY thread.

    here onwards http://www.homecinemacentral.co.uk/f...leys#post36539

    hope that helps

Thank you for the welcome and reply Andicapped it’s much appreciated. I will get some pics up once I’m finished . Reading through the link you kindly gave me I see that once the panels are made they are attached to the wall using Velcro is that correct? Is there a recommended Velcro to use? I had thought about drilling holes into the wall to secure the panels but would much prefer to be able to use the velcro.

any velco should do, the panels wil be pretty lite if you make them a decent size, not too big.
the panels i made are hooked on, i put some small nails in the walls and hung the panels like a picture, velco is probably better.

there's some good folks on here with a vast amount of knowledge and they're all really friendly so if you want anything else, just ask :0)

    Hi Ben,

    Welcome to the forum.

When I made the velvet frames for around my screen, the bottom row of panels just squeeze between the underside of the screen frame and the carpet.
All the rest were made to be a snug fit and are stacked together up the wall. No fixings, they hold themselves in place no problem.
The 2 front edge panels on the side walls are full height floor to ceiling, again no fixings just a snug fit.

The ceiling frames are thin strips of wood and held in place with panel pins.

Like Andy says though, there are a few ways you could do it.

    Cheers Ben,

    Dave

ps. Please tell me more about the Masquerade, I`m looking into masking myself.

    Hi Ben

and a big welcome to the friendly forum

mine is the thread that Andy pointed you to, all my wall panels are held up with velcro, really simple to do and off ebay tbh.

The ceiling ones are also velcro`d but I also found the joists and used headless tacks just in case.

I used 2" architrave to make the panels and just stapled the Devore onto the back, I promise you will not make a better improvement to the room

Really looking forward to seeing it all come together

    cheers Al

We insist on you posting some pics and if you don`t we`ll send someone round to take some

    Hi jacked

    Again thanks for the welcome

I see we have the same M&K fronts awesome speakers lovely setup you have there. I haven’t had too much time with the masquerade as yet as I only installed it on Saturday. From What I have seen the image is definitely improved with greater pop and clarity when the masks, horizontal in my case are deployed. There is dedicated 2:35:1 and 16:9 buttons on the remote as well as a jog up or down for all ratios in between. Using my harmony remote I now have all ratios programmed in and ready to go. Installation was a breeze I was up and running within 2 hours. Carada were great to deal with prompt to reply to emails and very detailed explanations great customer service so far. Any other questions please ask away

    Hi Al

Does seem a very friendly forum your right there and thanks for the welcome. If my project turns out to be anywhere near as stunning as your room has ended up I think I will be in AV heaven. You must be chuffed to bits how it’s turned out.

Velcro sounds ideal. I plan on coming back into the room from the screen with 65" or so of velvet does that sound good? Will look into getting some materials over the next few days and hopefully get cracking over the weekend. Lastly I promise i'll put some pics up once I’m finished.

    Ben
