    Default Toshiba Crt

    Hi Guys

Im new on here so go easy, At the moment i own a Toshiba with a CRT Screen which has a belting picture so not buying a Plasma or LCD just yet. What i wanted to ask you is would it be ok for me to add sound deadening to the inside of the case to stop it resonating? I would only add it to the solid pieces of plastic. The deadening im thinking of using is called SecondSkin Damplifier Pro used for car audio it has an aluminium foil top sheet and butyl rubber mat below and the glue is really strong. I have this spare from my car audio instalation.

May i thank you in advance for your replys

I'd be worried about how the sound deadening material will cope with heat output from the CRT. They do get pretty hot in there! Would hate for it to cause a fire!

In a car, next to a speaker or on a door panel etc, there is no heat, so no issue.

    Hope this helps?

Is the resonating that bad? I mean can you see it on the screen or is it just the sound of vibrating plastic? I think Per is right, adding any material internally to something that generates heat could be a recipe for disaster.

If you open the back of your TV you also run the risk of 24000volts purging through your body. Ouch!

Hi this is the stuff i have http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/seco...lk-p-4853.html It has great heat handling characteristics which shouldn't be a problem the thing that was on my mind is that it has aluminium foil on the back that could ark although the deadening material would be well away from the rear tube area.

I would have the tv unplugged when/if i do it! It,s the sound of the plastic that resonates especially when bloke on the news is talking. I guess i could watch the news with women news readers

It sounds/Looks an expensive way to go about it.... Is the TV that good that you don't want to upgrade, or is that not an option.... Sorry it doesn't answer your Original question !!!!

Do you have an amp/home cinema set up? Why not turn the tv speaker down to zero and use the cinema speakers?

Alternatively, and cheekily () don't watch the news (its always rubbish anyhow )

Maybe so but read this it could save your life.

    High voltage
CRTs operate at very high voltages, which can persist long after the device containing the CRT has been switched off and/or unplugged. Residual charges of hundreds of volts can also remain in large capacitors in the power supply circuits of the device containing the CRT; these charges may persist. Modern circuits contain bleeder resistors, to ensure that the high-voltage supply is discharged to safe levels within a couple of minutes at most. These discharge devices can fail even on a modern unit and leave these high voltage charges present. The final anode connector on the bulb of the tube carries this high voltage.
