Default Sony VPL-HW15 SXRD 1080p Video Projector News and Reviews

    Sony VPL-HW15 1080p Video Projector

The BRAVIA VPL-HW15 projector delivers the excitement and immediacy of HD to a new audience. It brings technologies capable of convincingly reproducing the cinematic experience within the reach of first time buyers of home cinema solutions. Featuring a stylish design, triple-panel SXRD and 8-stage image processing by the renowned BRAVIA ENGINE 2™, the VPL-HW15 is fully loaded with the features you need to introduce a true HD cinematic viewing experience into your living room.

    Features
    • 1080 Full HD SXRD Panel technology
With three of Sony’s 1920 x 1080 SXRD panels at the heart of the BRAVIA SXRD Home Cinema Projectors, a consistently superior image is produced across the entire screen. The unique combination of three separate panels of 1920 x 1080 resolution (one each for red, green and blue) means that SXRD can deliver over 6.2 million pixels, more than twice as many as the 2.8 million pixels you get with other 720p HD ready projectors. SXRD provides film-quality smoothness by minimizing the space between pixels (0.35µm) for smooth and dot-less pictures.
    • High Contrast Ratio – 60,000:1 with Advanced Iris 3™ technology
The Advanced Iris 3 contrast enhancement works like the human eye, responding dynamically to the level of light in each scene, always selecting the optimum contrast. With a very high range of 60,000:1, Advanced Iris 3 can bring out the detail in darker sequences and prevent bright scenes from looking washed out.
    • Digital Picture Processing – BRAVIA ENGINE 2
The unique BRAVIA ENGINE 2 delivers vibrant colours and exceptional image quality. It consists of eight separate stages of image enhancement – carried out in real time – each has a specialised function. Together they generate a picture that is optimised in every way, from the accuracy of the contrast to the precision of the colour reproduction.
    • Panel alignment function
The panel alignment function allows users to select R (Red) or B (Blue) to make adjustments based on G (Green), and to adjust the horizontal and vertical direction by shifting a full image of each colour, achieving the perfect colour registration of the projected images.
    • ARC-F (All Range Crisp Focus) Lens (1.6x)
This lens projects crisp and beautiful full 1080p HD images right to every corner of the screen.
    • BRAVIA Sync
BRAVIA Sync simplifies and enhances the home theatre experience. Through the control capabilities of HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface), the devices sync with one another for intuitive operations such as One Touch Play and System Stand-by.
    • 24p true cinema mode
This feature allows films to be watched as intended by the director for the big screen, at 24 frames per second.
    • Selectable 7 gamma base line
Flexible user setting for picture quality.
    • Two HDMI Inputs
    • Real Colour Processing (RCP)
Allows you to adjust the hue of a specific colour without changing the whole image.
    • Low fan noise of 22dB
    • UHP (Ultra High Pressure) Lamp
Natural colour reproduction thanks to ultra-bright 200 W UHP lamp.
    • x.v.Colour
Delivers lifelike colours and natural tones.

It would be nice if they had the HW-15 and HW10 running side by side to show what the extra 30,000:1 on/off contrast can do.

Its a shame Sony didn't include motorized lens shift on the HW15 like the Panny AE3000. If you're not going for CIH its not a problem but its a nice feature to have all the same.

    you know you are Ian

you`ve already told me you offered yours to Dean as it blinds his for on/off contrast figures alone and its about time he got his hand in his pocket..........

Didn`t you?? or was I dreaming

PS. didn`t he say he`d been paying for your room at the show and offset it against tax or summat to seal a deal

Kev, I reckon they are keeping the Motorised elements to the VPL Range and upwards otherwise they are going to get too Similar with very little between them.....

Al I think my Pearl would stand up pretty well against a HW10 or 15 in a side by side test, yes there is a good bit of difference in CR but in real terms watching a movie I doubt I personally would be that amazed in the differences....... I hope

Told you I wasn't going to bring that up. 15,000:1 to 30,000:1 is a big jump though.

A sponsor, what a great idea. Do we know anyone who has their own business that might be able to help?
