    Default Speaker connections and cable?

I've read there are a number of different speaker connections you can buy, which ones are recommended?

I read something about banana clips?

Also, which speaker cable should I buy to use with an Onkyo 605 and KEF 3005 or 1010i Q Acoustic speakers 5.1 speakers?

I'd stick with good quality cable - plenty of reasonably priced stuff on http://www.futureshop.co.uk/

Something like QED speaker cable is usually very well rated and regarded, but there is a huge choice out there.

Length of cable run might be a dictating factor as it will obviously impact on cost.

A rough rule of thumb is to spend about 10% of the cost of your AV equipment - Amp, DVD and Speakers on speaker wire, HDMI leads, etc.

    Happy hunting!

Banana plugs are the most convenient imo. Once the end of your speaker cable has been soldered onto a banana plug you simply push it into the corresponding hole. Much easier than binding posts that can come loose after time.

So do you get these soldered at a store?

One review I saw of the KEF speakers said that they do not accept banana plugs, the Q Acoustics do.

Hi mate, try the link. They have good choice, will do the banana plugs for you, they are cheap AND deliver free of charge (over £10) I have used them a few times and can highly recommend them

They're not suppose to, but many manufacturers just plug the hole with a plastic cap to conform to regulations. All you do is remove the cap and use your banana plugs as usual.

The only draw back to banana plugs is they stick out the back of your amp which won't be a problem if your amp isn't backed aginst a wall. Same with speakers, if you have them mounted on the wall there might not enough space for banana plugs.

Jag1977...banana plugs are the best idea regarding connections, believe me if you have to keep changing cable or whatever its no fun with bare wires.

With the plugs its just "in and out".

I agree. Binding posts come lose and the wires oxidise. Soldering is the best electrical contact and gold plated Banana plus aren't going to oxidise.
